...What Is It? |
In North America, there are several agencies which regulate product standards: UL, cUL, OSHA, EPA, National Electric Code, and FCC Emissions, to name a few. Europe also has several agencies, but their policies may vary from country to country. In 1993, the CE (Conformite Europenne) Mark Program was developed to ensure conformity with a number of directives and permit free movement throughout the European Union.
As of January 1, 1996, Eurotherm equipment sold in Europe was required to conform to the EMC Directive concerning electrical emissions and susceptibility. On January 1, 1997, a Low Voltage Equipment Directive concerning electrical safety will also be required; the changes that Eurotherm is implementing now meet the 1996 and 1997 rules. All CE Approved products bear the CE mark (shown above).
